Australia v Papua New Guinea

1982 in Papua New Guinea
Test : won 38-2 / Port Moresby (15,000)

Brett Kenny The inaugural Test match between PNG and Australia was played in the lead-up to the 1982 Ashes Tour. In hindsight, the Kumuls can claim that their performance was no worse than of the Great Britain side that fell to the "Invincibles" in the weeks that followed.

At a packed Llyod Robson Oval in Port Moresby every vantage point was taken as the locals enthused over the best rugby league players in the world.

The Kumuls put on a spirited display on a rock hard pitch that many compared to a carpark.

While the Test was on the rest of the Kangaroo party (led by Wally Lewis) were in Perth playing against Western Australia. The next day the two parties met up together in Singapore for the flight to England.
