Rule Changes. The 10m rule has changed rugby league - is it time
for other rules to be overhauled? Boer
War Mystery. Did a five nation rugby league tournament take place
in South Africa in 1900? Wallaby
Hall of Fame. Messenger and McKivat should never be inducted into
the Wallaby Hall of Fame given the damage their transfers caused to
rugby union. Our
Don Bradman. Uncovered long-lost 'rugby league' snippets from the
life of arguably Australia's greatest sportsman - cricket's Don Bradman. Barrow
Raiders Club. Historian Keith Nutter is compiling a book documenting
each footballer to have played for the club. He is seeking help to obtain
information on some Aussies who have played for Barrow. Gold
Coast Pirates or Buccaneers? Another club falling prey to the cheap
appeal of an American sporting cliché - or a traditional name? A
Test for Sydney. Bouyed by the interest shown in Brisbane to the
2005 Anzac Test match, the Australian Rugby League has announced that
the Olympic (Telstra) Stadium will host the next Kangaroos match.| Sonny
Bill Williams for Origin? Once in a generation, maybe longer, a
player rises in his/her chosen sport and changes the landscape. They
excel so far, that they challenge many of the existing conceptions of
their sport. Soccer
is not the only brand of football. At the risk of doing exactly
what John O'Neill wants us all to do - talk about soccer to help with
his publicity drive for the rebranded sport - the attempt to claim soccer
as the only sport that can use the description 'football' cannot be
allowed to pass. Blowout scores are back - and, as usual, it is the fault of the clubs and players that are getting flogged! Would you design rules for a football code that ensured only its top five clubs could play it? Read on... The 'play-the-ball' is now heading the same way as the scrum - a joke! Have a close look at the next NRL game you can - and really focus upon the play-the-ball. Watch what the attacker is doing and compare it to the rules - and I am not just talking about players failing to rake the ball back with their foot! Read on... Who should the NSW v QLD 'Player of the Series' Medal be named in honour of? Recent media reports have suggested the ARL is considering a medal for best player 'in the Origin Series' and it may be dual-named to honour a player from each state. Yet there is a way to celebrate inter-state rugby league, including Origin, and name the medal after just one player....Read on... The case for including the New Zealand Maori and Australian Aboriginal teams in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup. Some will argue that the World Cup's credibility will be challenged if Maori and Aboriginal teams are included. Yet there are valid reasons for their inclusion in this tournament. The availability of the 'grandparent' rule to other players, also raises questions...Read on... NRL team to win by a 100! When the day comes - and it will come soon - that a NRL team wins a game by 100 points everyone involved will look at each other and wonder how it happened. Read on... Celebrating 75 years of the green and gold - 1928 jersey / July 2003 Test The
Australian Rugby League Test side first wore a Green and Gold jersey
in Tests in Brisbane and Sydney in 1928 - this season marks 75 years
since that event. After
considering a recent submission by RL1908, the ARL has announced that
the Kangaroos will again wear this jersey in the July 25 Test match
at the SFS.
"It's a reminder of the tremendous history that surrounds representative Rugby League," ARL Chairman, Mr Colin Love (30 April 2003). Read on... Only the NRL coaches decide the rules So the NRL's meeting of coaches and the referees management is a sensible meeting to have - particularly in conveying information to the coaches so they can prepare for the season. The meeting though is more than that - the coaches and the NRL decide the rule interpretations. But should the outcome of this meeting be the end of the debate? Why is it only the NRL coaches and the NRL's referees co-ordinator who decide how the game will be played? Read on... Doing your bit to help school kids take up Rugby League Ever thought about how you could help propigate the game of rugby league in your local community? Not all of us have the time or the inclination to assist the local junior club - and realistically those kids are already well on the road to being future NRL players and fans. A recent chance event opened up my eyes to another way any of us can help contribute to the continuation of the Greatest Game of All - for a just a dollar or two! Read on...
