NRL
Rugby League 2002 Yearbook
by David Middleton
Rugby
League 2002 is the official yearbook of the NRL. Now in its fifteenth
year of publication, Rugby League 2002 is regarded as the game's most
comprehensive chroncile.
Rugby
League guru David Middleton - statistician, historian and writer - has
yet again delivered a compelling annual reference book of the season
just passed. If it happened on or off the field in 2001 it is here in
Rugby League 2002.
The
near 350 pages includes:
A
detailed look at the 2001 premiership success of Newcastle
Coverage
of the fairytale return of "Alfie" Langer in the Origin
decider
An interview with Souths' supporter Andrew Denton on the struggle
for Souths survival and their hopes for season 2002 and beyond
A look at how the Rabbitohs 2002 squad was put together, how the
club started in 1908, reflects on their five best ever seasons
and provides all the stats on the club's history
Full details and match reviews of the season's representative
games, including Origin and the Kangaroo Tour
The teams and results of all the premiership deciders from 1908
to 2001 are covered - whether Finals or Grand Finals
Profiles of the 5 Players of the Year, as well as the Team of
the Year selected from the best of the NRL in 2001
Over 20 pages reviewing the day-to-day stories of the season -
from the news that Jarrod McCracken was facing retirement (Jan.5)
to the resolving of Preston Campbell's concerns about the Sharks
signing of Kimmorley (Dec.31)
Tributes to the men of League who passed away during 2001, including
Roy Thompson, Col Maxwell, Tom Bourke and Bernie Purcell
Comprehensive analysis and details of the NRL season, round by
round, all the play-offs and each club's record
More statistics on the history of the game than can be imagined!
The
2002 Yearbook tells the story of the season and much of the
history of the game through its statistics. As a resource tool
for finding out anything about rugby league, David Middleton's
Yearbooks have become invaluable.
Ever thought about which player has scored the most tries ever
in a season - for each position?!! Choosing Phil Blake at half-back
was easy, and you might have been able to roughly guess Dave Brown
(centre), Frank Burge (lock), Steve Menzies (2nd row), Brett Mullins
(fullback) and the rest - but what about when you get to the front
row!
Prop forwards Jack Holland (St.George/1950) and Harry Eden (Souths/1975)
both enjoyed seasons where they scored 11 tries each, but I bet
you have no idea who the hooker was that amassed 13 tries in 1979!
For rugby league trivia buffs Rugby League 2002 can't be beaten!
