Hull FC Rugby League
50 of the Finest Matches

by Raymond Fletcher

Hull FC Rugby Leaguefrom Tempus Publishing UK

Magic moments - from Hull's first Northern Union match to the last game played at their spiritual Boulevard home. The years have been rolled back to select fifty classic matches involving one of Rugby League's most famous clubs.

The foreword is written by David Topliss, who was captain of Hull during one of their most glorious eras and played in seven of the '50 classic' matches.

Hull's first match at The Boulevard was in the 3rd Round of the inaugural Northern Union season. Its final match was against New Zealand at the close of 2002.

To read about that first match of 1895 paints a picture that many today never consider. While the match is now recorded as on the first of rugby league, it was in fact played under the rugby union rules of the day. Both Hull and Liversedge fought out a contest with 15 players a team and line-outs. The author recounts 'Hull's Plugge was praised for being a terror in the line-outs.'

The book ends with that final Boulevard match in 2002. In between Raymond Fletcher recounts matches that were chosen for their brilliant, thrilling play; others stood out as an event or had historic significance.

All fifteen of Hull's various Cup and Championship final triumphs have been included, plus a few defeats that must have brought heartbreak to their loyal fans. But the one thing they all had in common is that they were unforgettable.

Along the way the famous names that have turned out for Hull are littered through the pages.

A fine tribute to one of rugby league's most traditional clubs - a must for Hull fans and of interest to many others.
