The only problem I have with State of Origin is that some of the series blur into each other. Most people (depending on their age) can easily recall the key events and highlights, but pinning down the year and then which match in the series it was is a little harder. After more than sixty games and 20 series between NSW and Queensland its not surprising.

'Gods Of The Grounds' provides a solution to this problem. In this third book authored by Helen Elward and Graeme Langlands, they have tracked the history of the annual State of Origin clashes through one of the key players from each series.

Reading the memories of each player's series helps provide a context to all those Origin events we all remember.

A big bonus with this book is that each player's chapter includes a look back at their career highlights outside of Origin, particularly their deeds and memories of Test matches and Grand Finals.

As usual with the work of Helen and Graeme, the book includes small block sections on most pages that include topical quotes, key information, trivia Q & A's or interesting facts.

This is always a nice touch if you have a few minutes to spare (or over half-time!) - it means you can grab the book at anytime and just flick your way around the book picking up some great information.

The book is an easy read for all ages - from primary school kids ready to be inspired, to those who can remember the world before the arrival of Origin.

A fitting tribute to the history of State of Origin - by many of those who made it happen.
